About

Govardhana Puja is kept on the Pratipada, the first day of the waxing moon of Kartika, after Diwali. It remembers Krishna lifting the Govardhana hill to shelter the people and cattle of Vraja from Indra's rain. People worship Govardhana, often as a small hill shaped from cow dung, honour their cows, and in many homes and temples offer the Annakut, a "mountain of food". It is kept on the day the Pratipada holds at sunrise.

Questions

Which day is Govardhana Puja this year?

It is kept on the day the Pratipada holds at sunrise in your city, the date shown at the top of this page. A calendar that follows another rule can keep it on a different day.

Why is Govardhana Puja two days after Diwali in 2026?

By our calculation, in 2026 the Amavasya still holds at sunrise on the day after the Lakshmi Puja, and the Pratipada first holds at sunrise on the day after that. The rule is the Pratipada at sunrise, so the puja falls two days after Diwali this year.
