About
Jaya Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of the waxing moon in Magha. The Padma Purana tells of two Gandharvas, singers of Indra's court, freed from a curse by this fast, and says that those who keep it are spared the state of a wandering spirit (preta). People fast, worship Vishnu, keep the night awake, and break the fast on the next day, the Dvadashi, in the Parana window.

Questions
Which day is Jaya Ekadashi this year?
It is kept on the day computed for your city, the date shown at the top of this page. When the Ekadashi holds at two sunrises, Smarta and Vaishnava calendars can keep different days.
Why is it linked with Bhishma?
In parts of the south this Ekadashi is kept as Bhishma Ekadashi, remembering Bhishma, who by tradition taught the thousand names of Vishnu (the Vishnu Sahasranama) to Yudhishthira; many recite those names on this day.
