About
Mokshada Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of the waxing moon in Margashirsha. Its name means "giver of release": the Padma Purana tells how a king freed his father by keeping it and giving him its merit, so many keep it with their ancestors in mind. It is also kept as Gita Jayanti, the day the Bhagavad Gita is remembered as spoken. The fast is broken on the next day, the Dvadashi, in the Parana window.

Questions
Which day is Mokshada Ekadashi this year?
It is kept on the day computed for your city, the date shown at the top of this page. When the Ekadashi holds at two sunrises, Smarta and Vaishnava calendars can keep different days.
What is Gita Jayanti?
It is the day the Bhagavad Gita is remembered as spoken by Krishna to Arjuna at Kurukshetra. By tradition it is kept on Mokshada Ekadashi, and many read the Gita on this day.
Can the fast's merit be offered to the ancestors?
The Padma Purana's story tells of it, and some families make that offering in a prayer at the close of the fast; others keep the fast for its own sake.
