About
Saphala Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of the waning moon in Pausha, as calendars in the north name the month; calendars whose months end at the new moon call it Margashirsha Krishna Ekadashi. "Saphala" means "fruitful": the Padma Purana asks that Narayana be worshipped on this day with fruit, and that lamps be offered. People fast, keep the night in prayer, and break the fast on the next day, the Dvadashi, in the Parana window.

Questions
Which day is Saphala Ekadashi this year?
It is kept on the day computed for your city, the date shown at the top of this page. When the Ekadashi holds at two sunrises, Smarta and Vaishnava calendars can keep different days.
Why is fruit offered on Saphala Ekadashi?
The Padma Purana asks that Narayana be worshipped on this day with fruit, and its story turns on fruit offered at a tree's roots; many offer the season's fruit for that reason.
